WHY DGB?

We are not farmers or producers of organic beer, and you might ask, why would an agency that consults in the fundraising sector be considered a sustainable organisation? Why would they be interested in pursuing such a certification? How would DGB, its staff and clients benefit from the certification?

The overarching answer is – we all benefit from sustainable practices. Whether it be farming and food production, administration or automobile manufacture – sustainable practices can be applied – and should be applied, ideally. At the very least, in this day and age, it should be a consideration, for all businesses and organisations.

SUSTAINABILITY – THE BIGGER PICTURE

Households, individuals and communities should be accounting for the sustainability factor, whether it’s recycling or hanging clothes out to dry rather than using the dryer, or councils building new ‘green’ infrastructure. Nowadays, sustainability should be part of the equation.

Why is sustainability important, across the board? This doesn’t really need to be explained anymore. Sustainability is crucial for creating the best possible future for ourselves and our children, our communities and our planet. We all know this. We need to treat our species and our home with respect, so that we can sustain, and so that we can prosper – in the right way.

SUSTAINABLE SERVICE PROVIDER

How can a business like ours be certified as running a sustainable operation? It’s not because we bring our own mugs to staff meetings rather than use disposable cups (although we are doing that too); it’s because of the positive outcomes our work has for our clients and end-users, and the wider community.

Our work in the for-purpose sector directly and indirectly helps achieve transformational positive benefits to individuals, organisations and communities in the areas of health, education, social justice, environment, and governance. Within these broader themes our clients work to reduce hunger, promote social responsibility, build community engagement, deliver on employee wellbeing, inclusivity and accountability, create access to health for more people, address racial and gender equality,, promote ethical spending, uphold high standards of governance, promote responsible production and consumption, and many more.

BRINGING SUSTAINABILITY TO CAMPAIGNS

The expertise rendered by our professional fundraising consultants helps achieve outstanding results in campaigns to raise funds for important, life-saving and life-changing causes. Philanthropy, fundraising and the not-for-profit sector really is trying to make the world a better place, and we at DGB are doing our bit and doing our best. We help to make visions realities by focussing on partnerships that support innovation, foster quality training and education and lift low socio-economic areas. This work improves life on the land and the sea, and the overall sustainability of the global community.

In this way, we are making a determined, dedicated effort to contribute to sustainability. We share some of the credit in our nonprofit clients’ successes – when fundraising campaigns reap fantastic results which in turn improve the lives of thousands of our fellow citizens – this makes our business practice sustainable, and for this we have been independently validated as a sustainable service provider.

OUR BUSINESS

More directly, to be certified, the processes and systems of our business have been assessed against corporate governance, environmental impact, risk management, health and safety of our employees, ethics, privacy and data security, community engagement and our work with First Nations peoples and our commitment to reconciliation.

Staying certified ensures we remain compliant with the latest industry standards and regulations and enhances efficiency, and being certified connects us with a community of like-minded members offering opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration.

SUSTAINABILITY AND FUNDRAISING

Sustainability is extremely relevant in the fundraising arena:

  • it reflects the long-term viability of an organisation’s operations and its broader ethical and social responsibility.

  • modern donors – especially younger generations – increasingly value environmental and social responsibility. Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability can enhance trust and engagement, making donors more likely to contribute and stay loyal over time.

  • for many not-for-profits, sustainability aligns naturally with their mission. Fundraising practices that reflect this – for instance ethical sourcing of merchandise, paperless campaigns and low-carbon events – reinforce the organisation’s credibility.

Sustainable certification is a marker of trust and quality, it will assist in better engagement with stakeholders including customers, investors and government bodies and it is testament to DGB’s dedication to high standards and continuous improvement.

There’s a lot more to certification than food miles and carbon credits. Businesses are assessed on their approach and their making informed decisions to make positive change to ensure a more sustainable future for us all. At the end of the day sustainability is about improving the quality of life of our planet, our communities, our families and ourselves. DGB is delighted to be recognised as playing a humble, yet meaningful part in this great, ongoing endeavour.
